Arsenal’s first half against Hull City on Monday night was arguably the best we’ve played all season and this fact was not lost on the boss, who made it clear post-match he was impressed with our performance.

Speaking in his usual post-match presser, Arsene Wenger praised his team’s efficiency, saying, “We set ourselves the target to continue our run but also to continue to make progress as a team, because we feel we have made progress during the season. Tonight was a demonstration that we can improve and that we can keep the quality very high.

He was also pleased that we could win the match while playing the type of football Arsenal are known for playing. He said, “We played the kind of football we love to play and we played it for long periods of the game with the quality we desire.”

At times, in recent years, perhaps the Gunners haven’t been playing the free-flowing, pass-and-move football we’ve become famous for. We’ve lacked a certain tenacity and potency, which Arsenal teams of the past had in abundance. Our beautiful style of play wasn’t quite so pretty anymore and our results were suffering.

Fortunately, we seem to have regained our finesse and are playing some of the best football we’ve played for a while and the boss recognises this.

Long may it continue!
