Although Frank McLintock agrees that Morgan Schneiderlin would be a great addition to the Arsenal team, he doesn’t think this should come at the expense of in-form Francis Coquelin.

Speaking about Arsenal’s apparent interest in the Southampton holding midfielder, ex-Arsenal defender Frank Mclintock has expressed his opinion that the Gunners should sign the 25-year-old, saying,

“They’ve been linked with Schneiderlin at Southampton and that would be a terrific addition.”

He explains the advantages to having a player like Schneiderlin in the squad.

“He’s got height, something Arsenal have been lacking because they’ve been a small team for a long time. So someone of that calibre would be a good thing.”

However, he’s eager to point out that this signing should not be a replacement for Frenchman Coquelin who, after being recalled from loan at Charlton Athletic earlier this season, has taken the Premier League by storm.

“But it would be a shame if he were to replace Coquelin, he’s come on a bundle in the last month or so. That’s because he has the opportunity to play regularly and he’s taken on the task very well.”

Similar to most Arsenal fans, McLinstock seems to hold the belief that although Coquelin is excellent and should keep his spot in the starting 11, with Mikel Arteta likely to leave and Mathieu Flamini more of a hindrance than a help, having another defensive midfielder to bolster the squad can only be a good thing.
