Martin Keown has attributed England’s best bit of play against Switzerland to Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.

The Arsenal legend reckons that although the full-back hasn’t had the best start to his United career, for England, he’s been solid and there’s plenty more to come from him.

As a defender, the fellow centre-back is bound to feel more sympathy for the full-back than most players on the pitch.

“Luke Shaw might have made a slow start to life at Manchester United but he has started this season strongly for both club and country,” Keown said.

“England’s best play came when he galloped down the left and it was no surprise he created the opener.

“It was intelligent play to wait for players to commit before cutting the ball back to Harry Kane.

“A very strong all-round performance from Shaw going forward and defensively.”

After the match, Shaw congratulated teammate Wayne Rooney on breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also had a good game against Switzerland and finally got a full 90 minutes under his belt.

England qualified for Euro 2016 against San Marino with three matches to go after they won 6-0. However, the 2-0 win against Switzerland helped to continue their 100% win rate.
