Sporting director Edu Gaspar has decided to leave Arsenal, with details expected to emerge over the next 24 hours, according to reports.
Sami Mokbel reports for the Daily Mail that Edu Gaspar is set to leave Arsenal, with the sporting director making the decision to go.
Talks are ongoing with the club’s hierarchy, with the reasons for the decision currently unclear but more details expected over the next 24 hours.
Mokbel suggests there may have been a reshuffle of responsibilities in the Arsenal hierarchy but it would be “simplistic” to suggest there has been a power struggle.
Alex Howell of the BBC reports that Arsenal are not commenting on the reports that Edu is set to leave, but Sky Sports News report that the sporting director has indeed decided to go.
Sky sources claim Edu has been under consideration for a role with Evangelos Marinakis’ group of clubs, which includes Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest.
It’s not clear yet whether that’s why the Brazilian has opted to leave Arsenal, nor when exactly Edu plans to depart.
Like Mikel Arteta, Edu was initially an Arsenal player, but he returned to the club for a backroom role in July 2019.
As Edu is currently a permanent member of staff at Arsenal, he doesn’t have a contract for a set number of years like the players. That’s been the case since his promotion to his current position in 2022.
