As Raheem Sterling’s uncertain future at Chelsea raises speculation about his next move, Mikel Arteta has addressed rumours linking Arsenal with a potential reunion.

Having coached Sterling during their time together at Manchester City, Arteta spoke highly of the winger but quickly dismissed any possibility of a move to the Emirates.

With Crystal Palace and other clubs monitoring Sterling’s situation, the spotlight is now on whether a deal can be done before the transfer window closes.

Mikel Arteta’s admiration for Raheem Sterling was evident when asked by reporters if he would consider signing the Chelsea winger amid growing speculation about his future.

Arteta, who worked closely with Sterling at Manchester City, described their relationship as “exceptional” and noted that Sterling “taught me a lot.”

However, when directly asked if he intended to approach Sterling, Arteta firmly responded, “No.”

The context is crucial: Chelsea have made it clear that Sterling is surplus to requirements under new boss Enzo Maresca.

With interest from clubs like Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and even Juventus, Sterling’s potential departure has gained momentum.

However, obstacles such as his £325,000-per-week wages and preference to remain in London complicate any deal.

Given Arteta’s history with Sterling at City, it was almost inevitable reporters would raise the question.

Arteta, who served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City, praised Sterling’s influence on both his development as a coach and the dynamic he brought to the City squad.

“He was unbelievable and taught me a lot as well, about individuals, how they play, and how we give them support,” Arteta said.

Despite his glowing assessment, Arteta made it clear that he is not pursuing Sterling, focusing instead on Arsenal’s current squad.

Crystal Palace have emerged as a potential destination, driven by their London location, which could be attractive to Sterling given his desire for stability for his family.

However, the financial challenges, particularly his salary, remain a significant hurdle.

Other interested parties like Juventus and Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, though similar obstacles persist.

The coming days will be critical as Sterling’s future is expected to be resolved before the transfer deadline after having his Chelsea shirt number taken from him and given to new signing, Pedro Neto.

Neto was originally given the 19 when he signed under two weeks ago.
