Thiago Alcantara suffered an injury in his brief cameo appearance for Liverpool against Arsenal over the weekend, according to a report.
Liverpool’s Thiago had spent the entirety of the season out of action before the weekend’s match against Arsenal, with a hip injury preventing him from making a single matchday squad before last Sunday.
The 32-year-old finally made his comeback to the bench at the Emirates Stadium, and he ended up coming on as a substitute against the Gunners as they looked to save the game late on.
But it turned out to be a nightmare cameo for the Liverpool man.
For a start, Liverpool were reduced to 10 men within minutes of Thiago entering the field.
Then, with Joe Gomez having gone off and Ibrahima Konate picking up a red card, Leandro Trossard took advantage to race in behind and score Arsenal’s third goal of the game.
But to compound Thiago’s misery, The Times report that the Spanish international is now facing a fresh spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury.
It’s not clear exactly how long Thiago will be out, but The Times write that it’s a blow for Jurgen Klopp ahead of a busy few months on multiple fronts in his final Liverpool campaign.
Though in terms of the effect this will have on Liverpool’s results, the injury shouldn’t make much difference.
Thiago has been out for the entire season so far, he’ll continue to be out in the coming weeks. Nothing has changed there.
