Speaking on the Joe Cole Cast (via Goal), Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale suggested the Gunners should try and win the domestic cup trophies this season.

“The fans always have banter with other teams over when you last won trophies, so why would you not go and try and win the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup?” Ramsdale asked.

“For me that that would be a dream, to win a couple of trophies this year.”

It’s true that nothing really compares to winning trophies for supporters. At the end of a player’s career, you very rarely look back at how many times they finished 2nd in the league versus 3rd in the league. You look at their honours list.

The other side of that is that it’s become so important to be in European competition that you can’t just ignore that in favour of a League Cup final.

But that’s a problem you deal with when it comes to it, you can’t throw the early rounds just because it might cause rotation difficulties at some point.

Arsenal may not need to throw the early rounds, as their opening League Cup tie against Brighton in November looks tricky enough already.

But the cup competitions are one of those rare opportunities for Arsenal’s rotation players to get a chance in the starting lineup, and they’ll certainly be motivated to impress.
