Alexandre Lacazette was widely mocked on social media after he gave an interview last weekend where sounded like he had been sucking on helium, as you can hear in the video below.

It turns out, the former Arsenal striker has a polyp on his vocal chords, a problem he hopes to rectify with surgery during the international break.

According to Duke Health, “Vocal cord nodules, vocal cord cysts, and vocal cord polyps are noncancerous growths or bumps like calluses on your vocal cords. They can cause your voice to sound raspy, breathy, or hoarse. Your voice may crack or cut in and out as the bumps prevent your vocal cords from vibrating normally.

“Voice overuse — such as talking too loudly or too much — is frequently the cause of these growths, but they can also result from constant coughing, acid reflux, or allergies.”

Since returning to Lyon, Lacazette has scored four goals, with one assist, in seven league matches.

Last season with Arsenal, he scored four goals in 30 Premier League matches (with seven assists).
