20-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Tom Smith confirmed his loan transfer to National League side Bromley on Monday, joining for the season.

Arsenal confirmed a new deal for Smith in May, but they’re evidently looking for him to get some more experience now.

This is Smith’s fourth loan spell, and he hasn’t had much luck in the previous three.

The goalkeeper first joined Salisbury FC in 2019, making 10 appearances in a couple of months before suffering a knee cartilage injury that saw him withdrawn.

Smith then went to Dover Athletic, but his season was disrupted in part by the Covid-19 pandemic, and he only made three league appearances for the side.

After that, the goalkeeper joined Welling United, and once again, his season was cut short by injury after just a couple of league appearances.

Smith has been featuring for the Arsenal academy in pre-season, as well as making an appearance against West Ham United u21s in the young Gunners’ second game of the campaign.

But he’ll now look to get regular football on a weekly basis with Bromley FC.

Fellow Arsenal academy goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri is also on loan in non-league football, joining Chelmsford City.

Ejeheri has started all three of Chelmsford’s opening games of the season, keeping his first clean sheet last week. Smith will hope to have the same kind of start.
