Gabriel Jesus insists he isn’t at Arsenal to be the main man, he just wants to help the team to reach their goals.

Gabriel Jesus’ impact on Arsenal’s first public pre-season fixture was immediate, helping the team to score five goals in the second half against FC Nurnberg – four of which he was heavily involved in.

Though Jesus only got the credit for scoring twice, he forced two further own goals by being in the right place at the right time on both occasions.

On the final whistle, the opposition ball boys raced onto the pitch to take pictures with the new Arsenal striker. One journalist then asked if Jesus felt like the superstar of the team.

“I don’t want to be (the) superstar, you know,” Jesus answered. “I just want to play football, go on the pitch, help my teammates, like a family.

“I think we have to do everything together, outside the pitch, inside…

“I’m not here to be ‘the man’, I’m here to help, to learn with these guys as well, and to win together.”

As strong as Jesus’ start was, it was only one pre-season fixture.

The striker needs to keep the momentum going when Arsenal travel to the United States next week, and then into the new season.

The 25-year-old seems to be looking forward to it, particularly playing in front of the Emirates Stadium crowd later this month.

“I’ve just come to be part of this amazing club, amazing team, and then to win together,” Jesus said. “I believe a lot in the project at this club. I can’t wait to play at our amazing stadium.”

After pushing for a move for more game time ahead of the World Cup later this year, Jesus has plenty of motivation for the coming months with Arsenal.
