Arsenal have once again been linked with a move for Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta, though the midfielder isn’t going to come cheap.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola reports that Arsenal are one of the clubs after Lucas Paqueta this summer, with the interest primarily driven through Edu Gaspar.

The catch is that Lyon are expected to demand €80m for the player’s sale, and rich clubs like Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain are supposedly both in the race as well.

Calciomercato previously reported that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain were courting Paqueta, after his strong performances this season.

Mostly playing in midfield for Lyon, Paqueta has 10 goals and six assists this campaign. Arsenal are obviously in need of some goals from midfield.

24-year-old Paqueta still has a contract until 2025, having only joined Lyon in 2020. So if his valuation is as high as is being reported, there’s not much Arsenal or Paqueta can do to bring it down.

Paqueta generally plays centrally, but he’s a left-footed player who opts towards the right, which is the main downside of his signing.

Arsenal already have a few players comfortable on that side, and you’d probably want a new midfield signing to be stronger on the left.

The Brazil international is clearly a good player, Arsenal just have to decide whether he’s the investment they want to make at that price.
