Jamie Vardy has been ruled out of Leicester City’s match against Arsenal this weekend with a knee injury, according to Brendan Rodgers.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of Leicester City’s match against Rennes on Thursday, Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that top scorer Jamie Vardy is set for an absence of a few weeks through injury.
“[Vardy] unfortunately got injured in the last game so is going to be out for a few weeks,” Rodgers confirmed.
“He just got a knock towards his knee, but hopefully, in the next three to four weeks, he responds okay.”
In further injury news, Wesley Fofana’s return from a fractured fibula has been slightly delayed by a positive Covid-19 test. He’ll also miss the Rennes clash, but might return in time for Arsenal.
“He’s picked up COVID,” Rodgers said of Fofana. “It’s unfortunate circumstances.
“He’s not going to be able to feature tomorrow, but we’re hoping for the weekend now.”
On the other hand, James Maddison, James Justin, and Ricardo Pereira are all in contention for the Arsenal game, with Maddison and Justin likely to feature on Thursday as well.
Leicester have alternative options to Vardy, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka both available. But it’s inevitable they’ll miss Vardy’s influence on the side, particularly with his positive record against Arsenal.
Ahead of the game, Aaron Ramsdale had named Vardy as his toughest opponent, so he’ll hope the striker’s absence is a chance to get back among the clean sheets.
