Despite putting in another positive individual performance, a dodgy penalty call against Mark McGuinness saw Ipswich Town lose to Sunderland on Tuesday.

After two starts and two clean sheets last week, Mark McGuinness got another chance in the Ipswich Town backline against Sunderland on Tuesday.

The defender made three clearances, four interceptions, three tackles, and blocked one shot, without being dribbled past once. He also won 10 of his 11 individual duels. However, a controversial penalty decision against him gifted Sunderland the win.

McGuinness initially headed away a cross, before Sunderland sent the ball back his way. As he stretched to clear the ball with his leg, a teammate headed the ball into his hand from no more than a yard or two away. The referee pointed to the spot.

Ipswich Town fans were not at all happy with the decision:

Hopefully, the Ipswich boss won’t apportion any blame to McGuinness for the incident, and he’ll get another chance to help them to a win this weekend. The League One club face Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday.
