Mohamed Elneny and Dejan Iliev both received call-ups for their countries over the international break, as the sole representatives of Arsenal’s loanees.

Dejan Iliev joined up with the Macedonia squad playing away to Austria and at home to Israel over the international break, though he was on the bench for both matches. It’s always difficult to break into a team as a backup goalkeeper without any injuries, of course.

All the same, it’s good to see him involved with his country after his club form has picked up lately.

Mohamed Elneny did make it onto the pitch for Egypt, though only as a substitute. The midfielder played the final 25 minutes of a 1-1 draw with Kenya, but he didn’t feature in the second match against Comoros.

William Saliba is currently out injured, as are Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Daniel Ballard and Eddie Nketiah, so there was no chance of them featuring on international duty.

It’s vaguely worrying that four of Arsenal’s eight loanees are currently injured, but only Ballard is expected to be out long-term.

Ben Sheaf has featured for England at u18 level, but he hasn’t received a call-up since then – 2015. He has been playing very regularly with Doncaster Rovers though, even starting in the FA Cup win against AFC Wimbledon over the break.

Jordi Osei-Tutu hasn’t played for his country in any of the older age groups, but he’s making a good return to the VfL Bochum side and played in a friendly against Viktoria Koln last Thursday.
