Mesut Özil is once again being linked with a move away from Arsenal, with the source of the news just as dubious as last time.

On Tuesday we reported on the rumours that Özil could be on the way to Inter Milan. The likes of The Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Daily Star and Sky Sports all reported on it, but the original story came from an ‘exclusive’ by The S*n, and therefore shouldn’t have been taken as seriously as it was.

A very similar thing is now happening with a story about Paris Saint-Germain being the favourites to sign the playmaker. Spanish outlet Fichajes report that PSG are the ‘best-positioned club’ to sign Özil, and they cite the Mirror as their source.

However, the only article on the Mirror‘s website that even mentions the connection is a brief snippet on their transfer news page, where they highlight that PSG are currently the favourites to sign Özil with one bookmaker. The story isn’t based on any inside information, it’s just Ladbrokes’ best guess.

It seems pretty clear that there isn’t anything substantial behind the Özil transfer rumours, it’s just the tabloids taking advantage of the German’s recent injury to try and make a story out of it.
