Arsenal to wear third kit against Crystal Palace: The kit’s first competitive appearance

Arsenal will wear their third kit against Crystal Palace on Sunday, making the trip to Selhurst Park for the Premier League clash.

Palace’s home shirt is a mixture of red and blue, making it difficult for the Gunners to wear either their own home or away kit. As a result, they’ll instead don the green shirt for the London derby.

This will be the first competitive fixture Arsenal have ever worn the third kit, two and a half months into the season. We’ll have to wait and see whether it’s as blessed as some previous third kits, like the 2016/17 effort that the Gunners couldn’t stop winning in:

Alternatively, the new shirt could immediately earn itself a bad name amongst supporters by spoiling Arsenal’s 11-game winning streak. Football fans are a pretty superstitious bunch, so dropping points just once could be enough to have them convinced the kit is their bad luck charm.

Let’s hope that’s not the case. Arsenal have a fantastic record away to Palace, only losing one game since 1980. Then again, that one game was just last year, so Unai Emery can’t take anything for granted. Hopefully, he won’t.
