Chelsea are reportedly planning to move for Aaron Ramsey as the Welshman closes in on his final 12 months of his contract with Arsenal still to offer him a new one.

The midfielder is out of contract in 2019 and so far all reports have pointed towards this being yet another saga as he tries to leverage is position to get the best wage packet possible. But that might not be the case at all.

With Jack Wilshere looking like he will leave the club for free in the summer as he refuses to sign the new deal on offer from Arsenal and the club refuse to improve it, Arsenal are said to be ready to sell Ramsey when the window opens to avoid another Alexis Sanchez-type saga.

Having already sold Olivier Giroud to Chelsea it’s hard to see how the fans will accept yet another player moving across London to our rivals.

While Ramsey has always divided fans, more would certainly prefer to see him stay than leave and it has to be said he is another who owes Arsenal. Like Jack, the club have stood by him through a number of serious injuries when others would have simply tossed him on the scrapheap.

But, like Wilshere, who is a year younger than Ramsey, both are heading into what should be their peak years. This could be the biggest contract of both their careers.

For Ramsey’s part, he claims that the club have not even offered him a new deal yet, telling BT Sport, ”Nothing to comment on at the moment, I think they’ve been busy to tie up other contracts at the moment.”

If this is true it is hard to see how the club can standby their claims of wanting to avoid another contract saga when they did absolutely nothing to try and resolve this one before it became an issue.

With just a little over 12 months remaining on his deal, it is now an issue.

Just another lesson Arsenal say they will learn then refuse to bother.
