Rob Holding thinks that Arsenal proved a point with their draw away to Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday, and hopes his side can nick a goal at the Emirates.
Ever the optimist, Holding is hoping that Arsenal can reach the League Cup final by ‘nicking a goal’ when Chelsea visit the Emirates (again) on January 24.
“I think it’s a good result for us to take back to the Emirates in the second leg, where we can hopefully nick a goal and get the win and into the final.
“We had a point to prove here. We came under some scrutiny with our defensive display in the [Forest] game, so it was big for me to just get a clean sheet and have a solid game really.
“We knew we couldn’t lose, really. A draw is a great result to take back in front of our home fans and hopefully we can get the win there.”
Hopefully, seeing as the Gunners will have one or two injured players back in action by then, we shouldn’t have to rely on ‘nicking’ a goal. We are going to be at home after all and we managed to score two against them in the Premier League.
I wouldn’t say Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge really proved a point after the horror show that was our 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest. But it was improved and pretty solid considering how awful we’ve been looking in defence recently. Plus, our squad is down to its bare bones at the moment thanks to injuries.
Individually, Holding had an okay game against Chelsea. I’m still far from convinced that he has much of a future at Arsenal, but that could be said for most of the first-team at the moment. The 22-year-old only completed 79% of his passes and didn’t win a single tackle.
