Teddy Sheringham believes Arsenal can win the Europa League this season, and make it a ‘double’ for English teams in Europe.
The former Tottenham and Manchester United forward is confident that the Premier League will find success in Europe this season.
While he’s backed the credentials of Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool in the Champions League, he took the time to mention Arsenal’s chances in the Europa League.
“It is a competition that brings Champions League football for the winners, like for United,” Sheringham said, reports the Mirror. “Arsenal can do the same with the squad they have.”
The Europa League is about to get a lot tougher, as eight teams from the Champions League will drop down into the competition. This could include one of Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and one of Atletico Madrid or Roma.
So far, the competition has been relatively straight forward for Arsenal. We won our first three games against Cologne, BATE Borisov and Red Star Belgrade with a much-changed team.
A point at home to Red Star was enough for us to qualify, while defeat in Cologne didn’t prevent us from winning the group.
Arsenal play BATE Borisov on Thursday night and have nothing at stake. It could be a chance to play the youth players who have been involved in the other group matches.
