Alex Iwobi has been called up by Nigeria for their upcoming matches against Algeria and Argentina.

Iwobi’s inclusion in the squad has been confirmed by multiple sources, including scorenigeria.com.ng, and he will therefore be joining up with the squad for the matches on the 10th and 14th November.

There’s also a first call up for Nwakali, but not the Arsenal player on loan at VVV-Venlo, rather his older brother Chidiebere (20). Chidiebere won the u17 World Cup in 2013, before Kelechi won it two years later, so there’s clearly a lot of promise in that family.

Hopefully Arsenal’s Nwakali will get a call up in a year or two when he reaches his brother’s age.

As for the actual matches going on, the first against Algeria is Nigeria’s final game of the World Cup qualifiers, but Iwobi’s winner in the fifth match against Zambia means that there’s nothing at stake for the Super Eagles but pride, as they’ve already qualified.

Algeria only have one point from their first five games, so they’ll want to redeem themselves a little with a win, whilst Nigeria will likely just want to work on figuring out their best team for next year’s tournament.

The next friendly against Argentina will give them another opportunity to do that, considering Lionel Messi’s side are another team who have qualified already.
