Galatasaray are reportedly set to make a shock-move for Alex Iwobi this summer.

Galatasaray reportedly want to take Iwobi on loan this season with the Turkish club’s sporting direct, Cenk Ergun, allegedly in talks with Arsenal and willing to travel to London to meet in person next week in order to seal the deal.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a start for Arsenal this season and has only featured for 11 minutes in the league so far. However, it would be unusual for Arsene Wenger to allow him to leave since while he’s not exactly an out-and-out starter, he made 39 appearances over all competitions, 26 of which were in the Premier League, last term.

The Nigeria international also played 67 minutes in the Community Shield against Chelsea, so it’s not as if he’s just been sitting on the bench stagnating.

Iwobi first broke into Arsenal’s first team during the second half of the 2015/16 season after coming through the academy’s ranks and while his rapid rise has slowed down slightly, he’s still considered very much a first team player.

Last season, the winger scored four goals and assisted eight. Three of these goals were in the Premier League, which is one more than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted. Considering one is seen as one of Arsenal’s best players and the other is just on the fringes, that’s not that bad.
