With Roma close to signing Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri, questions will be asked why Arsenal have been beaten to a transfer target by a seemingly lesser club.

  • Seri was heavily linked to Arsenal
  • Roma reportedly paid £35m to sign the midfielder
  • Arsenal also missed out on Tolisso signing to Bayern this summer

According to the Metro, Arsenal look set to lose out on Jean-Michael Seri, just days after Corentin Tolisso snubbed the Gunners to sign for Bayern Munich.

Arsenal have still only signed one player this season, a versatile left-back from the German Bundesliga who didn’t cost a penny. Given the promises of significant investment to come in the transfer market this summer, supporters are starting to lose their patience.

Manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis were pictured in Nice earlier this month. It was believed they were in talks with the club over Seri’s availablity, but have missed out on the player to a club without their lucrative finances or European pedigree in recent seasons.

Roma, while a giant club in terms of popularity and infrastructure, are far from a European heavyweight of late, but if they are convincing players to join them over Arsenal, it could be a bad summer for the Londoners. First Tolisso, now Seri. Who will be the next player Arsenal lose out on?
