Routine testing for banned substances is, well, routine, but it’s not often we hear about them (or see them) unless something has gone badly wrong.

• Alexis was randomly selected by the FIFA testers
• Tests are in association with the Confederations Cup which will be held in Russia this summer
• Chile drawn in same group as Russia, Germany and Portugal

It was interesting, therefore, to see La Tecera in Chile print details of a recent test Alexis underwent, along with a photo of him having blood drawn.

When the Chile team arrived at their training camp on Monday morning, the FIFA testers were there waiting for them.

Hair and urine samples were also taken but those, thankfully, photos of those being taken have not been shown.

Chile face Peru on Wednesday evening (11pm UK kickoff time ensuring he’ll be nicely knackered by the time he arrives back for the game against Manchester City).
