Ex-Gunner reflects on Arsenal spell ahead of Emirates return with Hull

Hull City’s Brooke Norton-Cuffy has reflected positively on his time with Arsenal, but he’ll be playing to win with his new side on Saturday.

Former Arsenal academy youngster Brooke Norton-Cuffy returned to England to play in the Premier League this summer, joining Hull City from Genoa.

The move was a positive one from an Arsenal perspective, allowing them to cash in on the sell-on clause in Norton-Cuffy’s contract. The Gunners reportedly netted around £2.4m from the deal.

But the downside is obviously that Arsenal will now have to play against Norton-Cuffy, with the 22-year-old set to make his first appearance against his old club in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Norton-Cuffy insisted he still has many positive memories of his time in north London, although he’ll be returning to the Emirates Stadium looking for three points for Hull.

“I look back at my time at Arsenal with fond memories,” Norton-Cuffy said. “I learned a lot. I went from a boy to a man there.

“They will have a lot of the ball, but we set up to go into every game to try and win it. I know our team is always going to be on the front foot, aggressive, and trying to win games.”

Norton-Cuffy never made a senior competitive debut with Arsenal, despite showing a lot of promise and playing for the academy all the way up to the u21s.

Rather than integrating the right-back with the senior side, Arsenal opted to send him out on various loans to Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Coventry City, and Millwall.

Those spells went well enough to earn the player that move to Serie A side Genoa, and eventually back to the Premier League. He’s made five appearances for Hull this season, though only one start so far, as he settles in with his new teammates.
