Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of a centre-back in the wake of William Saliba’s injury update, with Ezri Konsa, Jacobo Ramon, and John Stones among their targets.

James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that Arsenal are stepping up their interest in a central defensive signing this summer, following the news that William Saliba will be unavailable for a few months.
Though Saliba has avoided the need for surgery, Arsenal are still expecting the player to face “an extended period” on the sidelines.
L’Equipe report that the exact duration of Saliba’s absence cannot be determined at this stage, and it will depend on how the centre-back feels. But it will definitely be months, rather than days or weeks.

Amid all that, McNicholas claims John Stones is among Arsenal’s targets, with the 32-year-old defender a free agent following his departure from Manchester City.
Stones has previously worked alongside Mikel Arteta, during the Arsenal manager’s time with City as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
McNicholas adds that Arsenal are also interested in Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa, but there’s a significant valuation gap between the two clubs at this stage.

As for the other potential targets, Sami Mokbel reported for the BBC on Thursday that Arsenal also have Como’s Jacobo Ramon on their list of potential defensive signings, but clauses in the player’s contract reportedly make the deal difficult.
Given the issues with signing Konsa or Ramon, perhaps a free transfer move for Stones becomes more likely. But it remains to be seen whether it’s a move the player wants, and his injury issues in recent seasons make it a gamble even on a free.
