Besiktas president Serdal Adali has revealed that Arsenal wanted to include a sell-on clause in Leandro Trossard’s contract, and that the Trukish club have been trying to sign him for a year.

Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that they’ve reached a transfer agreement with Besiktas for Leandro Trossard.
The club stopped short of actually confirming the move itself, as Trossard still needed to complete a medical and put pen to paper on his contract. But that formal confirmation should follow shortly, and it’s effectively a done deal now.
Speaking to the media after the transfer agreement was made official, Besiktas president Serdal Adali revealed that Arsenal wanted a sell-on clause in Trossard’s contract, adding that this isn’t the first time his club have tried to buy the Belgian international.

“Arsenal wants a share of the proceeds from any future sale, even for 31-year-old Trossard,” Adali said.
“We want to add a player like him to our roster. Trossard’s current contract won’t be his last. Let me make that clear.
“Last year, I offered €25m for Trossard. I offered him an €8m salary, but it didn’t work out – they wouldn’t let him go. This time, we’re signing him for a lower salary.”

It’s unclear whether or not Arsenal actually managed to secure the sell-on clause they wanted, but everyone should be pretty happy with the eventual deal.
Arsenal are getting less money than they would have last year, but in the meantime they’ve won the Premier League, with Trossard playing a key role in that success.
Trossard is getting less money than he would have last year, but he got a payrise in his final season with Arsenal and ended it with a Premier League winner’s medal.
Besiktas didn’t get the player they wanted last summer, but it looks as though they’ve got him this time around.
