Arsenal midfielder under pressure to leave – 1 destination ruled out

Christian Norgaard appears to be under pressure to leave Arsenal after just one year with the club, but it’s believed to be too soon for him to return to Danish club Brondby.

Mads Glenn Wehlast reports for Danish outlet Bold.dk that Christian Norgaard could end up being surplus to requirements for Arsenal in 2025/26, and he could be forced out of the club if he wants to play regular minutes next season.

Norgaard reportedly signed a two-year deal with Arsenal, with the option for a third. As it stands, that extra year isn’t expected to be activated, meaning his deal would be up next summer.

Though Norgaard is well-liked at Arsenal, the club are seemingly open to offers. But Bold.dk claim a move back to Brondby this summer is probably off the table, as it’s still too soon for a return to his old club.

Norgaard has regularly been listed among the players for whom Arsenal would consider offers this summer, and Gary Jacob reported for The Times in May that the midfielder is expected to depart.

Norgaard has made 20 appearances for Arsenal in 2025/26, debuting in the Champions League, providing a couple of assists in the FA Cup, and playing a part in the Gunners’ Premier League title challenge.

But whilst he won’t have many regrets about becoming a Premier League winner, his only start in the competition came on the final day of the league season.

Prior to that Crystal Palace match, Norgaard hadn’t played any league minutes for seven games, and he’d been out of the squad completely for four of those.

He kept making the bench in the Champions League, but that’s likely only because there are more spaces available on the bench in Europe. Again, the 32-year-old went through the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final without playing a minute.

Norgaard has recently retired from international football, so he won’t even have Denmark games to rack up some minutes next season. If he’s not playing with his club, he won’t be playing at all.
