Besiktas look to sign Arsenal player for just over £17m

Besiktas are seriously interested in signing Leandro Trossard from Arsenal this summer, setting aside over £17m for their attempt to complete the transfer.

Ergin Aslan reports for Turkish outlet Sporx that Besiktas are serious about signing Leandro Trossard from Arsenal. The club have reportedly already made an offer, with negotiations ongoing, and there’s a strong desire to sign him.

Sporx add that Besiktas have set aside approximately €20m (£17.3m) for the transfer fee and another €7m (£6m) in annual wages for the Arsenal player.

This report follows claims from earlier this week that Besiktas had held talks with Trossard’s representatives, and that Arsenal were also bracing for approaches from Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

If the Gunners can indeed draw some interest from within the Premier League, that would help to push the price up, though it would be a shame to see Trossard turning out for a domestic rival next season.

Speaking ahead of the World Cup, Trossard had stayed cryptic on his future, saying only: “I am still an Arsenal player, and we’ll see what happens this summer.”

Arsenal’s strong pursuit of left-wing signings this summer certainly calls Trossard’s future in north London into question.

There are strong reports linking the Gunners with 16-year-old Leicester City player Jeremy Monga, 24-year-old Club Brugge player Christos Tzolis, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, and PSG’s Bradley Barcola, all of whom can play on the left wing.

What’s more, those reports suggest that Arsenal’s intention would be to sign Monga, Tzolis, and one of Rogers and Barcola, dramatically increasing the competition on their left-hand side.

Rogers could play more centrally, but that wouldn’t change the picture much, and he’d still be an option on the left.

If the Gunners held onto both Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, the club would arguably be well overstocked in their positions. And despite a positive season, the fact Trossard is now 31 and entering the final year of his Arsenal deal makes him the most likely candidate for a sale.
