Ex-academy defender Josh Nichols has sent a farewell message to Arsenal after agreeing to join Croatian side NK Kustosija.

NK Kustosija announced on Monday that Josh Nichols has joined the club from Arsenal, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the player has signed a two-year deal with his new side.
Kustosija played in the Croatian third-tier last season, but they achieved promotion to the second tier and have been granted a license to play at that level in 2026/27.
Nichols will now look to kickstart his senior career, leaving Arsenal with one senior appearance and years of academy games under his belt.

“It’s hard to put into words what this club means to me,” Nichols wrote on Instagram about his departure from Arsenal.
“This hasn’t just been a team I’ve played for. it’s been a second family, a place where I started as a little boy, made lifelong memories, and shared unforgettable moments both on and off the pitch with my brothers!
“Over the past decade, I’ve experienced the highs, the lows, the victories, the disappointments, and everything in between. Through it all, my love for this club has never changed.
“Wearing this badge has always been an honour, and every time I stepped onto the pitch, I gave everything I had because this club means so much to me.
“I want to thank every teammate, coach, supporter, and most importantly my family for making these years so special. I loved every single moment. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner.
“Thank you, Arsenal ❤️”

After debuting for Arsenal in the League Cup in September 2024, Nichols spent much of the remainder of that season and the subsequent one back playing for the u21s.
The 19-year-old did make further appearances in the Arsenal first-team squad, and he was regularly involved in training, but that didn’t translate to any more competitive minutes on the pitch. His only involvement for Mikel Arteta’s side on the field in the last 12 months was during pre-season.
It makes sense that Nichols would now want to be involved in senior football, and it seems he’ll get that opportunity in Croatia.
