Hamburger SV have reportedly opened talks with Arsenal over Fabio Vieira, but recent reports suggest those negotiations are likely to fall apart.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports News in Germany reports that Hamburger SV are pushing to keep Fabio Vieira following the conclusion of his loan move from Arsenal, and talks with the Gunners have started.
In conversations with the player, HSV have recently made it clear to Vieira that they want to keep him and build their team around him, and the midfielder is open to staying.
But a permanent transfer requires HSV to reach an agreement with Arsenal, and that’s where things might fall apart.

When HSV signed Vieira on loan from Arsenal last summer, they agreed a €22m (£19.1m) option to buy in the player’s contract. If they were willing to pay it, they could do so today and avoid any negotiations.
The problem is that HSV reportedly don’t want to pay nearly that much, with Ryan Taylor recently writing for the Mirror that they’re hoping for a deal at less than €10m (£8.7m).
Vieira ended the 2025/26 season with 13 goal contributions for a bottom-half Bundesliga side, despite a very disrupted start to the campaign. His impact and consistency has been clear and impressive, so a €10m deal seems well under his true value.

Football insider Hand of Arsenal reports that Arsenal’s strategy on any sellable player, including Vieira, is that interested clubs must pay a respectable fee.
David Ornstein has confirmed as much in the case of Gabriel Jesus, reporting for The Athletic that the Gunners are demanding a fee of £18-20m, and that they’re prepared to keep Jesus if they don’t get the right offers.
Should Arsenal take a similar stance with Vieira, it’s difficult to see how HSV would successfully agree a fee with a difference in valuations of €12m, with the option to buy more than twice what they’re willing to pay.
