Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks set to return to England this summer, with Birmingham City eyeing a free transfer move for the former Arsenal player as he agrees a contract termination with Besiktas.

Last week, Sky Sports News reported that Birmingham City are interested in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, with Besiktas potentially willing to let him go for free.

Gregg Evans added for The Athletic that Oxlade-Chamberlain is in talks with Besiktas over terminating his contract, keen to return to England after two seasons in Turkey.

Now, the Mirror are reporting his club have agreed to terminate his contract.

Evans and John Cross in the Mirror confirmed that Birmingham City are one of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s suitors, though he has other interest from the Premier League and the Championship.

If this story sounds familiar, it may be because Oxlade-Chamberlain was in a very similar situation last summer.

Reports suggested Besiktas were willing to let the player leave in 2024, aware that he was keen to return to the UK. At the time, Ipswich Town and Sheffield United were listed among the interested clubs.

Yet nothing panned out, and the England international was ultimately reintegrated with Besiktas. He went on to make 20 appearances in 2024/25, scoring one goal, and missing out on their Europa League squad completely.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is still primarily known for his spells with Arsenal and Liverpool, playing 198 times for the Gunners before making a further 146 appearances on Merseyside.

A return to the Premier League could mean reunions with two of his former sides, but Birmingham City currently appear to be the more likely destination.
