Former Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t get the Premier League move he wanted this summer, but he was watching Arsenal’s transfer business from afar.
Former Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was in talks over a return to England this summer, linked with the likes of Ipswich Town and even Championship club Sheffield United.
The Besiktas player was keen to return to England, and his club were willing to let him leave if he could find the right destination.
Reports suggested Besiktas were open to a sale or a loan deal, and all parties were open to finding an amicable solution for him to move back to the UK.
Yet nothing panned out in the end, and the 31-year-old is set to remain in Turkey for another season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was evidently keeping a close eye on the summer transfer market in England, posting about Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal after it was confirmed.
“Yeah yea yeah, I’m feeling it,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said in response to Arsenal’s post on Instagram. “Big tings a gwaaan @sterling7”
Assuming Oxlade-Chamberlain doesn’t move to one of the few leagues whose transfer windows are still open, it looks like his focus will now be on reintegrating into the Besiktas squad. He wasn’t involved in any of their August fixtures.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Besiktas from Liverpool last summer, and he made 30 appearances for the Super Lig club, scoring four goals.
The former Gunner made 198 appearances for Arsenal in a six-year spell before going on to make 146 for Liverpool over the following six years.
