AC Milan have made Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior a priority signing this summer, according to a report.
Santi Aouna reports for Foot Mercato that AC Milan have made Jakub Kiwior their priority summer signing, despite Arsenal’s previous refusals to sell.
Milan failed to convince Arsenal to part with Kiwior in January, but Aouna reports that the Italian club’s hierarchy are unperturbed, and they’re determined to make another attempt to sign the defender in the coming weeks.
The report follows an update from TMW earlier this week, who claimed that Milan would reignite their interest and that Arsenal could be open to a sale in the region of €20-22m (£17.1-18.8m).
Kiwior wasn’t always a starter for Arsenal in 2023/24, with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba preferred at centre-back, and a lot of competition at left-back.
The 24-year-old did have one particularly strong run in the team in February and March, with Arsenal going unbeaten in the league during that period and winning their Champions League tie against FC Porto.
Yet Kiwior’s 18 starts over the course of the season are still likely less than he could be getting elsewhere.
It’s just a matter of whether Arsenal want to sell, with the player under contract until 2028.
Kiwior is unlikely to be particularly focused on a transfer at the moment, as he prepares to play at the European Championships with Poland.
Poland have a couple of friendlies over the next week or so, playing Ukraine on Friday, June 7th and Turkey on Monday, June 10th.
After that, they kick off their participation at the Euros with a game against the Netherlands on Sunday, June 16th.
Kiwior has been named in Poland’s provisional Euro 2024 squad. Having played all but three minutes of his country’s last 21 fixtures, he’s almost certain to be a starter at the tournament.
