Despite continuing links between Arsenal and Viktor Gyokeres, reports in the Swedish media suggest a summer move isn’t on the table.

Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP has been heavily linked with Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window, but Fotboll Direkt suggest that the Swedish international will be going elsewhere.

Ola Gustavsson reports for the Swedish site that several English sources have independently reported to them that Arsenal are denying any interest in Gyokeres.

“That is simply not true,” one source claimed. “I have asked the question and he is simply not the profile they are looking for.”

Edu Gaspar has reportedly firmly denied any plans to sign Gyokeres, with no contact between the two parties. The Arsenal technical director is looking at a different profile of player for the summer window.

FD add that Sporting could conceivably sell Gyokeres for around €80m (£68.3m) this summer, making him the most expensive Swedish player of all time.

But Arsenal won’t be the buyers, perhaps for that very reason.

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias had reported earlier this week that Arsenal were actually growing increasingly likely to make a move for Gyokeres, and Fabrizio Romano claimed on Wednesday morning that the striker is on the Gunners’ shortlist.

But in the player’s home country, the media are evidently unconvinced that Arsenal are a genuine option.

Gyokeres has 36 goals and 16 assists in 43 appearances for Sporting this season, helping them to the top of the Liga Portugal, as well as helping them into the final of the Portuguese cup.
