Arsenal are likely to target players in four positions this summer, aiming to strengthen the squad in each key area of the pitch.

Simon Collings of The Standard reports that Arsenal are set to target a top-quality forward and a midfielder in the summer market, and they’ll also look to bring in a new defender.

Collings adds that the Gunners are likely to be in the market for a goalkeeper as well, but you’d expect that will depend on whether or not Aaron Ramsdale leaves the club.

Arsenal have already started to be linked with potential goalkeeper signings, but if Ramsdale ends up sticking around, the Gunners wouldn’t really need another addition between the sticks.

The other three positions are certainly likely to see summer additions.

Whilst Arsenal have a strong front line when everyone is fit and firing, they lack a strong alternative to Bukayo Saka, and injury problems to many of the others in the front three make them all a bit unreliable.

Whether Arsenal add a striker or a winger, the net result is roughly the same. A centre-forward would free up Gabriel Jesus to rotate with Saka or Gabriel Martinelli on the wings, whilst a new winger would address the wide depth issue directly.

In defence, the situation is similar. Arsenal have a strong back four, but they lack back-up options at the same level.

Again, the Gunners have some flexibility with potential signings, as the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, and Jakub Kiwior are all capable of playing at full-back or centre-back, depending on where the new signing plays.

In midfield, the situation is going to depend on outgoings, with Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s futures unclear.

Whether they leave or not, Arsenal will be looking to the future and preparing for the two players in their thirties to move on in the coming seasons.
