Reports suggest AC Milan have joined the race to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The Italian giants could offer the English shot-stopper a fresh start after he lost his starting position at Arsenal.
Aaron Ramsdale’s fortunes at Arsenal have shifted dramatically.
After an outstanding 2022-23 season with 14 Premier League clean sheets and a long-term contract extension, his playing time has all but vanished this season. He’s managed only 10 appearances across all competitions under Mikel Arteta.
Euro 2024 spot in jeopardy
With David Raya set to extend his time at Arsenal this summer on a permanent deal, it seems there is no way back for Ramsdale and his lack of playing time already threatens his place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. You imagine he can’t be happy with how things are going and will be pushing to leave when the window opens.
All of this has reportedly caught the attention of AC Milan, who are thinking of capitalising on the situation while helping to revive the 25-year-old’s career.
A move to AC Milan could provide Ramsdale with the regular playing time he needs to challenge again for the England number one shirt, while the opportunity to compete for silverware with an historic club like AC Milan might be an appealing prospect for the young goalkeeper.
They are far from the only team said to be interested in the Englishman, however. Chelsea and Newcastle have also seen their names come up regularly in relation to signing him.
Whether Arsenal are willing to part ways with Ramsdale remains to be seen, but it seems highly improbably they will keep him for the bench. Recent rumours linking them with goalkeepers like Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson suggest they are already on the lookout for a new number two.
With his contract running until 2026, Arsenal hold a decent negotiating position but everybody in football also knows that Ramsdale will be looking for a new club.
