Arsenal defender Ben White has signed a new contract with the club, with the official announcement now having been made.
On Wednesday night, David Ornstein of The Athletic broke the news that Ben White has signed a new and improved long-term contract with Arsenal.
After months of negotiations, Ornstein reported that the talks reached a positive conclusion, with an official announcement expected by the end of the week.
Arsenal then confirmed the new deal on Thursday morning.
White’s previous deal lasted until 2026, but his new one will see him sticking around for a few more years.
The BBC’s Alex Howell reported that the new deal runs to 2028, which Fabrizio Romano has corroborated.
But Romano added that the contract includes an option to extend to 2029, so the deal could ultimately last for a little over five years.
The Italian journalist also confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed his new contract as well, and it’s just a case of waiting for that one to be announced.
White himself explained why he’d want to stick around at Arsenal in a recent interview with Sky Sports.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” White said. “I’m very settled and all my family are here. It’s an amazing place to live and obviously playing for Arsenal tops it off.”
As it stands, White earns around £120,000 a week, but he’d receive a significant increase with his new deal.
White has proven a key player for Mikel Arteta since signing from Brighton and Hove Albion, playing 122 times for the Gunners.
The defender has made 39 appearances (34 starts) for Arsenal this season.
