Kyle Walker appeared to pick up a hamstring injury in England’s game against Brazil on Saturday, putting him at risk for next week’s Manchester City clash with Arsenal.
Manchester City captain Kyle Walker started for England in a friendly against Brazil on Saturday evening, but the right-back didn’t even complete 20 minutes before being forced off with an injury.
Walker asked his teammates to stop play before walking off the field, reportedly having suffered a hamstring issue.
The player walked straight down the tunnel following his substitution.
Gareth Southgate admitted afterwards that they don’t know how serious the injury is, and it may just be tightness, but he believes it’s probably a little more than that.
“We don’t know (the severity),” Southgate said. “He’s not had many injuries, so he himself isn’t sure whether it’s just tightness.”
“I suspect if he’s feeling it, it’s a little bit more than that but we’ll know a bit more over the next 24, 36 hours.”
On Sunday morning, Walker posted on Instagram: “Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I’m back ASAP.”
Even a minor hamstring injury would likely rule Walker out of Manchester City’s game against Arsenal next weekend, with the match now just seven days away.
If Walker avoids injury entirely, he could be back, but if not, you’d imagine he’ll miss at least that match.
Walker has made 38 appearances for City this season, and it’s clear he would be one of their starters if fit.
As it stands, Walker is the only serious Manchester City injury doubt for the match, though Ederson is also somewhat of a doubt.
Pep Guardiola told the media he’s hoping Ederson will be back for the match, and it looks like Kevin De Bruyne will also be available. Reports of an injury to Erling Haaland turned out to be incorrect.
