Takehiro Tomiyasu’s new deal at Arsenal is reportedly signed, with the defender set to double his wages with the club.
Charlie Wyett of The S*n reports that Takehiro Tomiyasu’s new Arsenal contract is “signed and sealed”, adding that the player will double his wages to about £100,000 a week.
Wyett suggests that the only reason for the delay in Arsenal confirming the new deal is that Tomiyasu is currently out of action through injury.
Once the player returns to action, the Gunners will then announce his new contract.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Tomiyasu’s contract extension with Arsenal is done, and the player is “100%” signing a new deal.
Romano also suggested that the only delay was in finding the right moment for the formalities of the actual signing and announcement.
The Italian journalist claimed that various Serie A clubs have shown an interest in Tomiyasu, but Mikel Arteta was always keen to keep the defender around.
All focus now will turn to Tomiyasu’s injury recovery, and Arteta had a positive update in his post-match press conference on Monday.
Tomiyasu is still yet to return to club action after the AFC Asian Cup, but Arteta suggested that comeback is not far off.
“He’s very close, he’s already doing something on the grass and hopefully we’re going to have him very close with us,” Arteta confirmed.
