Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United comfortably on Monday, racing into a 3-0 lead before there were 15 minutes on the clock, and ultimately running out 6-0 winners.

The result was never in any doubt, but there were a couple of potential injury concerns from the match.

Bukayo Saka put Sheffield United to the sword in the first half, but he was withdrawn at half-time. Gabriel Martinelli was then forced off in the 64th minute.

After the game, Mikel Arteta gave updates on both players.

“[Saka] was feeling a bit sick, and as well we have Fabio who we have to give minutes,” Arteta explained. “It was great opportunity [for us].

“Then we had a little issue with Gabi Martinelli as well, he had a slight cut on his foot and we have to wait and see how he is.”

Though sickness and cuts are far from ideal, neither situation sounds particularly serious at this stage. With any luck, the two will be able to recover in the next few days before the home game against Brentford.

Arteta also had a positive update on Takehiro Tomiyasu’s situation in his post-match press conference, with the defender still to return to club action after the AFC Asian Cup.

“He’s very close, he’s already doing something on the grass and hopefully we’re going to have him very close with us,” Arteta said.

The Athletic report that Tomiyasu is edging closer to a return.

Arsenal’s only other two injuries are to Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko, and neither player seems particularly far off a return, though Timber is unlikely to be back before the international break at least.

David Raya will also be ineligible for Arsenal’s next game, as the Gunners face the loanee’s parent side, Brentford.
