Emile Smith Rowe won’t make a decision on his Arsenal future until the summer, according to a report.
Fabrizio Romano reports in his Daily Briefing that despite ongoing speculation around Emile Smith Rowe’s future at Arsenal, there’s no clarity on what will happen to the midfielder this summer.
Romano reports that Arsenal and Smith Rowe won’t make a decision on a potential transfer until after the final months of the season have been played.
West Ham United did have Smith Rowe on their January shortlist, but the player wanted to stay at Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta wanted to keep him. For the time being, there’s been no new decision to part ways.
As so often during his Arsenal career so far, the last couple of months were impacted by another injury to Smith Rowe.
After making the decision to stay at the club, Smith Rowe broke back into the starting lineup against Nottingham Forest on January 30th. But less than a fortnight later, he was absent again through injury.
The situation was a repeat of what happened earlier in the campaign, when Smith Rowe got a start against Sheffield United before spending the next month sidelined through injury.
The 23-year-old has since returned to action and made a couple of substitute appearances, but it’s hard for him to break in when he gets injured every time he gets a Premier League start.
It doesn’t help that the midfield three of Jorginho, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard is proving so effective. It’s hard to see which one of those three Smith Rowe could realistically displace.
But Arsenal still have up to 15 games remaining in the current campaign, depending on how far they get in the Champions League.
That’s plenty of time for something to change, and all parties are seemingly holding off on a potential transfer decision until then.
