Emile Smith Rowe isn’t expected to be out for long, despite picking up an ankle injury in training with Arsenal last week.

Emile Smith Rowe appeared to be on the verge of breaking back into Arsenal’s regular starting lineup last month, making a substitute appearance against Crystal Palace before starting against Nottingham Forest.

But February hasn’t gone so well, with the midfielder dropping to the bench against Liverpool before missing out on the squad to face West Ham United completely.

Mikel Arteta revealed before the game that Smith Rowe had picked up an ankle injury in training, though there was no word on the severity of the problem at the time.

Charles Watts now reports the good news that the injury isn’t believed to be a bad one, and Smith Rowe isn’t expected to be sidelined for long.

The 23-year-old reportedly suffered the injury leaping over a slide tackle in training, landing awkwardly on his ankle and suffering bruising and swelling.

Watts writes that Smith Rowe was keen to play through the pain, but Arsenal decided not to take the risk, with the Champions League tie against FC Porto coming up.

The midfielder will now be monitored for a possible return against Burnley, but he shouldn’t be out for long either way.

Smith Rowe has made just 14 appearances (3 starts) in all competitions for Arsenal this season amid a couple of injury setbacks.

The England international has struggled to find any rhythm so far, with his two league starts followed swiftly by new injuries.

With any luck, this one won’t last as long as the previous did, and Smith Rowe will be back involved this weekend.
