Gabriel Martinelli is a major doubt to face FC Porto on Tuesday, after suffering an injury against Sheffield United last week.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli missed Saturday’s game against Brentford with a foot injury, having come off early against Sheffield United in the previous game.

In the immediate aftermath of the Sheffield United clash, Mikel Arteta had stated that Martinelli only had a “slight cut on his foot”. He later told the media the player had a “little” issue.

But the signs after that weren’t particularly encouraging.

Martinelli could be seen wearing a protective boot and walking with crutches at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, after being left out of Arteta’s squad.

Football.London and The Standard then reported that the winger is a “major doubt” for the Porto game.

The squad to face Porto hasn’t yet been decided, but Martinelli was absent from training on Monday afternoon, suggesting he won’t be involved.

Arsenal are mostly doing alright on the injury front outside of Martinelli’s issue.

David Raya will come back into the fray after he was ineligible against Brentford, leaving only Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu still absent.

Though both were in training on Monday, it seems unlikely either defender will return in time for Tuesday’s game. Even so, to have just three potential injuries at this stage of the season is a blessing, not a curse.
