Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has cemented his place in football history, with his recent brace for Olympique Marseille making him the all-time top scorer in the Europa League.
Arsenal fans will remember his goalscoring exploits during his time in North London, where he also made significant contributions to the competition.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived at Arsenal in January 2018 from Borussia Dortmund, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite and one of the Premier League’s most lethal strikers. The Gabonese forward’s pace, clinical finishing, and trademark celebratory flips made him a force to be reckoned with.
One of Aubameyang’s most memorable moments in an Arsenal shirt came during the 2018/19 Europa League campaign. He scored a stunning hat-trick in the second leg of the semi-final against Valencia, propelling the Gunners to the final.
While Arsenal ultimately fell to Chelsea in that final, Aubameyang’s performances throughout the tournament were instrumental in their run.
In total, he scored 92 goals, with 21 assists, in 163 games for Arsenal. 14 of those goals came in the Europa League.
Aubameyang’s Europa League record
The forward’s brace for Olympique Marseille against Villarreal on Thursday night has now made him the all-time leading scorer in Europa League history with 33 goals. Those goals, along with seven assists, have come in 57 games.
In total, Aubameyang has 21 goals, and eight assists, in 36 games this season for Marseille which is quite the turnaround. For the first few months of his time in France, the media and some fans wondered if he had come to Marseille thinking it was a ‘retirement home’.
Auba turns 35 this summer and is under contract with Marseille until 2026.
