Amid talk of an £80m valuation this summer, Wolves’ Pedro Neto suffered another injury scare at the weekend.

Wolves winger Pedro Neto has had rotten luck with injuries in recent seasons, and he suffered another scare at the weekend.

Just 45 minutes into his team’s match away to Newcastle United, Neto was forced off with a hamstring concern. But Gary O’Neil seemed hopeful after the match that they’d taken the necessary precautions to avoid a serious problem.

“[Jose] Sa and Pedro [Neto] both off injured at half-time left us in the toughest position we’ve been in,” O’Neil admitted.

“Pedro has a tight hamstring and I don’t think there’s any injury there, it’s just tight. It was precautionary really.

“Pedro, with a tight hamstring, we had no choice to make sure he was off and safe, and make sure we had enough to go again on another day.”

The concern will be that Neto’s most recent injury was a hamstring problem, keeping the 23-year-old out from late October until the end of December.

Funnily enough, that last injury was in Wolves’ reverse fixture against Newcastle United.

This time around, O’Neil sounds confident that Neto isn’t going to face another spell on the sidelines, but it’s another warning sign for any clubs looking to sign the Portuguese international this summer.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein recently reported that Arsenal want to bring in competition in the wide attacking area this summer, and Neto remains of interest.

But Ornstein added that it’s unlikely Arsenal will pay Wolves’ asking price of £80m for a player with a dodgy injury record.

On top of that, there will be competition from the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur for Neto’s signature.

The winger has three goals and 11 assists in 22 appearances for Wolves this season, so he’s undoubtedly been in great form when available.

But Arsenal have other names on their shortlist, so they may well decide to look elsewhere in light of Neto’s continuing fitness uncertainty.
