Arsenal are unlikely to pay Wolves’ asking price for Pedro Neto this summer, despite their desire to sign a wide attacking player, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Arsenal want to bring in competition in the wide attacking area this summer, and Pedro Neto remains of interest.
But Ornstein adds that it’s unlikely Arsenal will pay Wolves’ asking price of £80m for a player with a dodgy injury record.
On top of that, there will be competition from the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur for the signature.
Arsenal have other names on their shortlist, so they may well decide to look elsewhere.
Neto has three goals and 11 assists in 21 appearances for Wolves this season, so he’s undoubtedly been in great form when available.
Whether that’s enough to justify an £80m fee when he’s had such serious injury problems is another matter.
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Neto will be on the shortlist of many clubs this summer, including both Arsenal and Liverpool.
Whilst John Cross wrote for the Mirror that Neto was one of the wingers on Arsenal’s summer shortlist, alongside Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
The interest very much appears to be genuine, but that won’t mean much if Arsenal can’t afford to risk £80m on him. From the sounds of things, that’s a likely outcome this summer.
