Arsenal loanee Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand has struggled with injuries even since joining the Gunners, and this season has been more of the same so far.

The midfielder has been in and out of the team with Den Bosch, and on Friday he returned from his longest absence yet.

After eight league games without a squad appearance, Oulad M’Hand hinted at a return earlier this week, when he played in a practice game for his loan side.

That was followed by a return to the bench against Helmond Sport on Friday night, then an on-field comeback for the final 30 minutes of the contest.

Oulad M’Hand did well in his brief showing, creating one chance and taking a shot of his own, winning four of his six duels, making two interceptions and two tackles without being dribbled past.

The challenge, as always, is to get a run of games going now.

Oulad M’Hand joined Den Bosch with an injury problem, keeping him out for the first few weeks of his loan spell.

After an eight-minute debut against Groningen, the midfielder missed the next game. He returned to play four times in a row, then missed the next match with another injury scare.

Making another comeback for two consecutive league starts in November turned out to be a false dawn, as he then missed the next two months of action.

The last few years have been a perpetual cycle of comebacks and setbacks, but there’s plenty of time left in the season to break that pattern in the Netherlands.
