Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga was one of Luton Town’s key players in their 4-0 win over Brighton in their previous fixture, and the on-loan midfielder impressed again in Saturday’s thriller against Newcastle United.

Though Luton failed to take all three points on this occasion, the away side scored four goals once again in a dramatic 4-4 draw at St. James’ Park.

Lokonga completed 93% of his 43 passes, creating one chance and completing his only attempted dribble.

The Arsenal man also did well in the physical battle, winning 11 of 15 individual duels and making five tackles without being dribbled past, as well as two interceptions, two clearances, and blocking two shots.

It’s encouraging for Lokonga that he continues to play such a key role for Luton since returning from injury, with Saturday’s game representing his sixth consecutive league start.

But it’s even better for the Arsenal man that his reintroduction has coincided with an upturn in Luton’s form.

Luton have picked up 11 points in those last six games, having only managed four points in the previous six.

They’re far from being out of the woods with regards to the relegation battle, but they’re at least out of the bottom three ahead of their clash with relegation rivals Sheffield United next Saturday.

Lokonga talked to the media about his Arsenal future recently, suggesting he still thinks of himself as a Gunner.

“I think it’s too early to say [what the future holds],” Lokonga said. “I haven’t had any contact with Mikel Arteta yet. I’m concentrating on Luton. We’ll talk to Arsenal at the end of the season.

“But everything will happen gradually. I still consider myself an Arsenal player. I’m appreciated there by the fans and the staff. I think I can have a future at Arsenal, but that will depend on my performances here.

“I’ve always said that as long as I have a contract with the Gunners, I’d like to make my mark there.”
