Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga caught the eye during Luton’s recent shock win over Brighton and Hove Albion, providing a fantastic assist in their 4-0 victory.

Lokonga’s previous assist against Sheffield United had been a straightforward short pass, with his display on that occasion perhaps more noteworthy for his goalline clearances.

But the Arsenal loanee deserved all the credit on this occasion, playing a diagonal long-ball perfectly into the path of the goalscorer.

Speaking after that performance, Lokonga suggested he still has a future at Arsenal, and he still thinks of himself as a Gunner despite his current focus on Luton.

“I think it’s too early to say [what the future holds],” Lokonga began (via Sport Witness). “I haven’t had any contact with Mikel Arteta yet. I’m concentrating on Luton. We’ll talk to Arsenal at the end of the season.

“But everything will happen gradually. I still consider myself an Arsenal player. I’m appreciated there by the fans and the staff. I think I can have a future at Arsenal, but that will depend on my performances here.

“I’ve always said that as long as I have a contract with the Gunners, I’d like to make my mark there.”

Things haven’t always gone to plan for Lokonga in north London, and he probably expected to be starting for the Gunners by now, not out on loan.

Yet the Belgian international insists he made the right choice in 2021, and he wants all the best for his current club.

“I’ll never regret my move to Arsenal,” Lokonga insisted. “It’s a club that’s close to my heart. I hope Arsenal are champions this season. For my friends and the staff.”

Luton are next in action against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon at 15:00 GMT.
