Anthony Gordon is the latest Newcastle United player to suffer an injury ahead of Arsenal’s match against Eddie Howe’s side later this month.
The BBC report that Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon could be facing a spell on the sidelines with injury after leaving Saturday’s match against Luton Town on crutches.
Gordon came off at half-time of the Luton match, and Eddie Howe wouldn’t be drawn afterwards on how long the winger could be out.
“I think he twisted his ankle,” Howe said. “He is in a protective boot and the physios are doing the right thing.”
It’s now just three weeks until Arsenal face Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium, with Gordon having scored the winning goal in the reverse fixture.
Joelinton set up that controversial winner at St. James’ Park, and the Brazilian midfielder has already been ruled out of the Arsenal match with an injury of his own.
Yet there has been better news for Newcastle this week with Alexander Isak.
The striker was initially touted to be set to miss two-to-four weeks, but Howe then announced in his pre-Luton press conference that things had improved and Isak could even be fit to play on Saturday.
That ultimately wasn’t the case, but it certainly seems Isak will be back fit by February 24th now.
Sandro Tonali remains absent through his gambling suspension, and he’s not available to play again this season.
Nick Pope has a shoulder injury, and he’ll also be out for long enough to miss the trip to the Emirates.
But there’s better news elsewhere for the visitors, with Harvey Barnes back, and Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, Callum Wilson, and Matt Targett all currently tipped to return before the Arsenal match.
